In this project you will better understand why we need to eat and exercise and that both go hand in hand.  A girl between the ages 9 to 13 requires 1600 calories for a non-active lifestyle, 1600-2000 calories for moderate activity and 1800-2200 calories for a very active person.  A boy between the ages 9-13 requires 1800 calories for non-active lifestyle, 1800 –2200 for a moderate active lifestyle, and 2200-2800 for a very active lifestyle.   Kids you age should be active for at least 60 minutes every day.

Paragraph 1 – Physical Activity

Write down what type of physical activity you do in a day/week.  Are you being physical active for at least 60 minutes a day?  Are you in constant motion for at 30 of the 60 minutes a day?

Paragraph 2 – Calories

Define what a Calorie is?  How many calories do you eat in a day?  (Take one of the days from the sheet that you ate three meals a day and analyze it)  List the food you ate and find out about how many calories those foods had and if it fits into your recommended calories intake chart stated above.  This is a best estimate.  Do you think you are eating the right foods?

Paragraph 3 – Balance

Balance in life is very important.  If you take in too many calories and you are not active you feel heavy or sluggish.  On the flip side, when you are active but don’t take in enough food for energy you feel tired and out of energy.  Explain using your paragraph on physical activity and your paragraph on calories to state whether you are balanced in your life or not?  What would you need to do to make your life more balanced?
