DiMiceli was surprised with the award by Erin J. MacGregor, Howell Public Schools superintendent, and Tim Moore, Highlander Way Middle School principal. Courtney Tarara, Howell Public Schools Board of Education vice-president, DiMiceli's husband, and several of the students who nominated her were also present for the surprise.

DiMiceli received numerous nominations for the Support Person of the Year award from Highlander Way Middle School students and staff. Each nomination mentioned DiMiceli's kind and caring personality and willingness to support all students. Several nominations noted that DiMiceli takes the time to learn the curriculum to better support students when they have questions. It was also stated that DiMiceli often arrives early to ensure that she is prepared for the day and often works in the evening to prepare for the next day.

"Working with the students and the fabulous staff at Highlander Way has always been extremely rewarding. To be recognized in such a manner is truly an honor! I would like to thank my co-workers and students for this recognition," said DiMiceli.

"We are so lucky to have Shelley supporting our students at Highlander Way Middle School. She continually goes above and beyond the job duties of a paraprofessional to ensure that all students reach their full potential," said Moore. "She seamlessly integrates into each classroom and becomes a support not just for her students but for each student in that class. No matter what the day brings, Shelley has a smile on her face and a positive attitude."

"Shelley's dedication to the students and staff at Highlander Way Middle School is undeniable. From arriving early to prepare for the day to working after school to understand the curriculum of the classrooms she is working in, Shelley goes above and beyond what is expected of her," said MacGregor. "It is clear that Shelley cares about each student at Highlander Way Middle School and will do everything she can to help them succeed."

A committee composed of 25 teachers, support staff, parents, a central office administrator, principals, and a school board member was tasked with selecting this year's Support Person of the Year. Individually, committee members reviewed the support materials for the 43 support staff members nominated for this year's award. Each committee member then voted for their top five nominees. On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the committee met to review and discuss the top five Support Person of the Year nominees resulting from the initial vote. After discussing each outstanding nominee, each committee member voted for their top three choices. Following the vote, DeMiceli emerged as this year's winner.

Please join the entire Howell Public Schools community in congratulating Shelley DiMiceli on her extraordinary work and dedication to the students of Howell Public Schools. The Howell Board of Education will honor DiMiceli at its March meeting.
