Highlander Way Choir4/25/23 - This spring has been very busy for the Highlander Way Middle School choirs! On March 6th, 2023, the 6th grade and Chamber Singers choirs performed at the District 4 Choral Festival at Waterford Kettering High School. The students spent all of 3rd quarter preparing music to sing for the festival adjudication panel, and practicing reading music. At the festival, students are given a score for their stage performance, and for sight-reading. They are also given the opportunity to briefly work with another seasoned choir director to further improve their singing skills. At the end of the day, the scores from the stage performance and the sight-reading room are totaled in order to receive an overall rating. Both the 6th grade choir and Chamber Singers received the highest possible rating of a Division I, earned a perfect score in sight-reading, and each singer received a blue medal!

On April 11, 2023, the 7th and 8th grade choirs traveled to Brighton High School to work with Oakland University choir director, Dr. Mike Mitchell. Both choirs performed two songs for Dr. Mitchell and the other Brighton choirs who were in the audience. Each choir was given 45 minutes to work on their musicianship with Dr. Mitchell and both made tremendous progress in that short amount of time!

Congratulations to all of the HWMS choirs and we invite you to our final performance of the year on May 25, 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center.
